With so much being made about comments that famed author and Nobel Laureate Toni Morrison said about Bill Clinton being the "First Black President", do you think she has regrets. Although she made the comment in 1999, they seem to be playing a big role in the 2008 Democratic Primary.

So do you think this thing about Bill Clinton being the first "Black President" is much ado about nothing or are people really taking stock in these comments?

Toni Morrison endorses Barack Obama....

  1. Being that I think Toni Morrison is brilliant on must subjects, she was a complete moron to state this. This has got to be one of the most idiotic statements I have ever heard. Tell me how black Bill is when he goes to catch a cab in NYC? I bet his blackness don't play a factor when he goes in for a loan or when he walks through a department store.

  2. Let's not pretend that Toni Morrison was the only person who was saying these things. I can recall comedians and other people sharing the same sentiment. Let's not just single Toni out. We are all wrong for thinking the same thing.

  3. Well, Toni was the only person crazy enough to say it to the New Yorker which the last time I checked was a serious publication. A comedian saying something is completely different from someone of Toni's stature saying something so ridiculous .

  4. She should have some regrets. I blogged about this whole first black President thing and Andrew Young saying Clinton was as black as Obama. It really ticks me off.

I love Toni Morrison--met her at a book signing for Love and she was sooo nice. BUT they read her full quote during the debate on Tuesday and she didn't just say he was the first black President--she said he was blacker than any black man elected president could ever be. It just goes too far. I don't now, nor have I ever considered him black. Blkstar, you're exactly right, how can he ever know the true experience of being black?

I should hope that now that Bill is showing his true colors playing the race card against Obama, Morrison might have some regrets.

  5. I bet Bill Clinton's "blackness" don't come into play when he goes for a bank loan. It has always amaze me how we as a people like to bestow on 'others' honorary Black Cards. Just because this man likes fried chicken and play the saxophone don't make him no brother.

Black people are so in love with Bill Clinton, but I challenge you to tell me exactly what Clinton did that was so great for Black people. This is the man that gave us NAFTA and the "3 strikes and your out" rule. I shouldn't have to tell you how many brothers are serving life sentences due to that law.
