Okay, people here's my verdict on the last debate.
John McCain
I think McCain won the first thrity minutes of the debate. He came out strong and he looked like a man on a mission, but somewhere along the line the old-condescending-grumpy old man-eye rolling John McCain came out. Its quite obvious he has absolutely no respect for Obama. You could tell this from all the eye rolling and sighs he did whenever Obama was speaking. I can just see him talking to Putin and whenever Putin says something he disagrees with he rolls his eyes. That is so juvenile. He did however have his best moment when he said to Obama that he 'wasn't George W. Bush and that if he [Obama] wanted to run against him [Bush] then he should have run four years ago.' Now, this is an argument McCain should have come up with two debates ago. He had all the momentum until he switch over unto the Ayer's smear that his campaign had been waging against Obama. He had Obama on the defensive up until this point. This was the turning point for McCain. Everything started going downhill from there. When he was talking about free-trade with Colombia, once again he couldn't stop himself from lecturing. Its a little hypocritical lecturing Obama about going to Colombia when your running mate just got her passport last year. Are you serious? Is this really the best argument you can come up with. He kept talking about reform, but he didn't say exactly how he planned on reforming stuff. How am I, as a voter, supposed to know whether or not the reform you are planning is positive or not if you don't tell me what you are planning on doing? The pundits always speak about how Obama speaks in generalities, but they never bring up the fact that McCain does the exact same thing. I do think the most telling moment of the debate for John McCain is when he brought up the issue of the health of the woman as far as a late-term abortion is concerned. I'm pretty sure this is going to be an issue that may have cost him a lot of undecided Hillary voters. Oh, and can someone please tell me what is so bad about spreading the wealth? This was something John McCain obviously took issue with when he was talking about Joe the Plumber (am I the only one that thought this sounded like a porn name). Spreading the wealth (which Obama is for) is completely different than re-distributing the wealth. I thought spreading the wealth was a fundamental of the American Dream. Maybe I was wrong.
Barack Obama
I have to admit that I am one of those people that want to see Obama get a little more fight in him. I don't think this was his best debate. McCain was controling the debate for the first 30 minutes. I love defense when it comes to football, but during a debate it's never good to be on defense. Offense is the name of the game during a debate. I understand that it was the tactic of the Obama campaign to make him look the most presidential and show that he had the steadier hand (and believe me he accomplished this), but I just wanted to see a little more of that killer instinct. When McCain said that he wasn't Bush I wanted Obama to respond by saying "Yes, John, I agree that you are not Bush, but your policies make you Bush-like." John McCain has been in locked step with the Bush adminstration 90% of the time. That is a figure that cannot be disputed. I just wanted Obama to get a little nice-nasty in him. Hillary Clinton was the master at this. I think Obama's best moments came when he spoke directly into the camera and talked to the American people. He definitely came off more presidential. He also got a gold star from me when they were discussing Supreme Court justices and he brought up Lilly Ledbetter (the case that was about equal pay for equal work). John McCain looked liked a deer caught in headlights. He definitely skated over that issue in his rebuttal when he said something about trial lawyers and some other stuff that was incoherent.
That was the way I saw it. Please feel free to tell me how you saw the debate or if you even watched it.
Now the only thing we can do is wait. Fortunately for me I voted early last week so my part is done. Now it is up to everyone else to make sure you fulfill your part. I suggest that if your state has early voting you take advantage of that. The lines on Nov. 4th are going to be crazy so if you are an impatient person please vote early.
