  1. I am from the Hobson City area born and raised. Jones Hill is my neighborhood. Hobson City was the place to be. I think of my time growing up often. Many of us, miss our town. Now, we have to find funding to breathe life into the city and soon. There are events planned for August 13-15, 2010. Follow my blog on here BitterSweet@encouragerdaily.blogspot

  2. I had the privilege of serving as a VISTA volunteer from 1965 to 1966 along with Gene Peter, Sam Cook, Ruby Shanklin and Bill Hansen. We were the first class of "DOMESTIC PEACE CORPS" volunteers. I played catch for the local men's baseball team that played against teams from Pell City, Gadsden, Talladega, etc. I was the first "white guy" to play in that league. I also remember Mrs. Ball, Mayor Strickland, the pool, the basketball we built inside the community center. Clee's place was a Night Club located just outside the City limits. The hospitality was incredible. So many memories.

  3. Also, the great high school football and basketball teams of Calhoun County HS. The teaching staff there was tremendous. Also taking a trip down to Tuskegee and getting Olympian Bob Hayes's autograph. Oh yeah... he DID play for the Cowboys...
