Beautiful and Powerful! This is the type of poetry you need to hear when you're having a bad day. You know those days when the fact that the world doesn't acknowledge you or your beauty starts wearing on you. Well, this poem came for me right on time because just for a second I was beginning to have one of those moments. I was sitting here reading Facebook and I noticed everyone was commenting on the Miss Universe pageant. I can't tell you the last time I watched this pageant but of course I had to turn it on to get a perspective of why a lot of the women were complaining, and of course as soon as I turned it, it became obvious. There wasn't a brown skin sista represented at all in the top 15. Now, Miss Jamaica was definitely representing for the mocha latte sistas, but there wasn't an ounce of chocolate to be found anywhere. Now, of course I wasn't surprised. This is to be expected when you have these so-called beauty contests that only find one type of beauty that is acceptable. It is a cycle that continues to churn along. So you can imagine my delight when I stumbled across this poem by Joshua Bennett because just for a second I was starting to believe the assault the media has perpetrated against black women. You know the one where they continue to tell us that we're not worthy, we're not beauitful, black men don't love us, and we're doomed to be forever lonely and single. Well, Joshua brought me back to reality. I hope he does the same for you.

Side Note:

You know poetry is good when you hear the 'Amen Corner' hmmm-ing and hawing in the background...LOL!!!
