Now, isn't this interesting.  The Nielsen State of the Media report that was recently released shows that African Americans watch more television than any other ethnicity in the country.  Being that we are one of the most underrepresented group of people on televison, I just don't understand why we watch so much TV.

In November 2010, when the data was compiled, African Americans used their TVs an average of 7 hours, 12 minutes each day -- above the U.S. average of 5 hours, 11 minutes. Asians watched TV the least, at just 3 hours and 14 minutes a day on average.

Does anyone besides me think this is a major problem?  I'm thinking that maybe our televison watching is one of the major components that is hindering our health as well as our educational achievement.  I mean you may think I'm reaching with this one, but think about it.  African Americans continue to be one of the most obese groups in the United States with our educational achievements (especially for boys) on a downward spiral; whereas, the opposite can be said for Asians.

Now, I don't have any scientific evidence to back up my claims, but I definitely think this is something we should think about.

THOUGHTS!!!!!

  1. Why is it that everything negative always involve Black Folks? First of all, there are no Black Folks with Nielson Boxes in their homes,so I don't know how they came up with those numbers. Secondly, you would think that if that many Black Folks was watching TV, and they know that we are, then why isn't there more Black Shows on TV? Oh I forgot, we watch anything, whether we see ourselves in it or not, unlike other races, if they don't see themselves, they don't watch or participate in it. Now,don't get me wrong; I do think Black Folks watch to much TV,instead of reading books, studying or researching information that they need to understand how to get around this mess of a world we live in. But I'm not believing that "Study".

  2. You know we're apathetic, so does it matter if the study is true or not? The real point is the further we get away from slavery, reconsruction, and the civil rights movement, the more damn ignit we become. WTH! 7hr of T.V. in one day.

At this point I'm hard pressed to believe that they haven't placed Nielson boxes in some black homes; hence, the rating for premiere of The Game and the winning of Sins of the Mother for LMN movie of the year. We're out there, being measured. That's why Maury can stay on. And the DNA test shows...you're not the baby's daddy.
