NEW ORLEANS -- The Loyola University student missing for more than a week has been found alive in Ocean Springs, Miss.

Sources told WDSU that Rudy "Ruth" Carter, 21, was located in a hotel room there, with other people.

Carter's mother said Monday that her daughter had been found safe, but New Orleans police cannot officially confirm the woman was located until they see her in person, a police spokesperson said.

Carter was last seen May 28 at a crawfish boil held at her friend's parent's nursery on Freret Street in Uptown. But she left the gathering shortly after talking to her mother on the phone about her grades.

"She made her friends aware she was tired of being a disappointment. This all recently unfolded. Nothing could be farther from the truth. It's impossible for her to disappoint any of us," said her mother, Nicci Carter.
