Sep 7, 2011 all are so lucky I take this Savvy Sista thing very serious because I actually sat down and watched the GOP Debate in full...LOL!!! It was a little rough for your girl in the beginning, but I have to say I found it very informative. So let me give you a run down of how I saw things before the mainstream media puts their spin on it.

Governor Rick Perry of Texas made his national debut tonight. Although I'm pretty sure everyone in the mainstream media is going to call the debate for Mitt Romney, I'm going to call it for Perry. The MSM is going to say his 'Ponzi Scheme' comment about social security is going to hurt him but I seriously doubt that. If anything that comment will help him with the tea partiers. The fact that he didn't back down from the comment is even better. The Republicans like the John Wayne, macho types and Rick Perry definitely fits the bill. Mitt Romney plays more to the establishment of the GOP, but Rick Perry is Tea Party all day. He may have hurt himself in the general election, but he definitely helped himself in the primary.

My personal favorite of the night was Jon Huntsman. This man is entirely too good for the GOP. He's sensible, states facts, believes in science and evolution, is willing to work across the aisle, and realizes the immigration debate involves real people. There's no way in hell he has a chance of getting the nomination. He stood up and actually looked like a statesman. Maybe if he was running in 2000 he would have a shot at the nomination, but this is 2011 and the Tea Party rules; besides, he's a Mormon as well and I don't see that flying in the Bible Belt.

The most telling thing that stood out for me tonight was the applause that was generated by moderator Brian Williams stating that during Rick Perry's tenure as governor of Texas over 200 and something death row inmates had been executed. This was quite interesting for me because 9 times out of 10 the same people that were clapping for executions probably also identify themselves as Pro-Lifers. I know go figure.

Well this is how I'm going to call it:

WINNERS: Rick Perry, Mitt Romney, Jon Huntsman

LOSERS: Michele Bachmann, Ron Paul, and the rest of the field
