Rachel Jeantel, the witness that was the last one to speak to Trayvon Martin, was offered a wonder surprise by the 'Hardest working Man in Radio' Mr. Tom Joyner.

Tom Joyner offered Jeantel help with acquiring her GED as well as preparatory assistance with the SAT.  His offer didn't stop there.  He then proceeded to offer her a full scholarship to any HBCU she wishes to attend.  (((Here's hoping she choses FAMU.  I know.  I'm biased.)))

Here's what he said to her:

“Here’s my offer to you, if you want to graduate from high school and go to an HBCU, even if it’s not in Florida but especially Florida, like Florida Memorial, Edward Waters, Bethune Cookman or FAMU, if you want to do that, I want to help you do that,” Joyner told Jeantel.

“I will help you get tutors to get you out of high school, tutors to help you pass the SAT and I will give you a full ride scholarship to any HBCU you’d like,” he said.

Finally something has made me smile.

    3. After how she was demeaned by white America you really think she would want to go to any PWI? Besides, there is nothing wrong with making an effort to support universities that WE created for US when we didn't have any other options.

  21. Wonderful of Mr. Joyner to make such an offer! I pray she realizes the gift he has offered to her and accepts.

PS: If Harvard offers someone a scholarship, it is not to attend Yale. If you know about Mr. Joyner, you know he represents/supports HBCUs. If he wishes to make his offer stand only if she attends an HBCU, that is his (money) choice.

    1. True. And for those commenting that they would like for her to have the option of attending a non-HBCU, I am sure she will accept the funds you provide for her to do so. The fact is, Mr. Joyner has just given her 105 FREE options. Anyone doing less has no right to complain.

  30. With an education and her tough nature, sky is the limit. I sure hope she takes full advantage of it, sealing thus the mouths of the ruthless people who take it that lack of education equals stupidity. More stupid, for me, is having a fact in front of you and deny it, rationalize it until it is small enough for your brain to be able to process it. No matter what the system says, Zimmerman is a murderer who caused all the events that led to his 'self defense'. BTW, he was defending his arrogant pride, not his life.

  68. How did she say her test scores were? I hope they are great and I am behind this 100%. However,I would not want her to apply to a HBCU and be told that she dosen't qualify for admission. I don't know a lot about her, but I know enough to know that I would like very much for her to go to college if she wants to go, not because she is somewhat "forced in" based on of a moment of fame. That would not be fair to her. Tom Joyner has been blessed to be able to take care of the financial end of this. I hope that this young lady has been blessed to take care of the academic end, which is something the Mr. Joyner cannot do.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Someone asked why a HBCU. Tom Joyner is a huge supporter of HBCUs. He has programs in place to support students going to HBCUs. So, this would make sense on so many levels to continue his advocacy and continuous support of HBCUs across the nation.

  85. I love how these anonymous people are criticizing the fact that its an HBCU.

Firstly, it's this mans money. He can put whatever stipulation he wants. Many scholarships require students to go to particular schools, select particular majors, and pursue certain career paths. So what is the difference?

Secondly, she has a choice. If she doesn't want to go o an HBCU she doesn't have to accept the offer. That simple. I don't see anyone scoff when minorities are offered scholarships ONLY to PWI's (I am one of these such students. and it's a blessing. but its also the donors decision on where they want to invest)

  86. That is commitment. I pray that she excels and not forget.

Zim has years prior to this happening demonstrated on multiple instances to not be racist and not have anything but love for the black community. Seems to me people are just looking for a reason to riot or are themselves not very intelligent.

Yes its sad someone died, but if they were both white would we really care? I don't think so. If they were both black would we care? Doubtful because there are nightly black on black crimes in Chicago and I have yet to see a riot or large public outcry about it.
