Outside of my mother, there are not a lot of people I consider personal heroes.  Harriet Tubman, however, is one of the people I do consider a hero.  She is a woman that is worthy of respect and above reproach.

So the fact that Russell Simmons would allow a video parodying a Harriet Tubman "sex tape" on his All Def Digital Youtube channel is beyond disrespectful in my opinion.

I'm sure there are going to be some people that say it's just comedy get over it, but sometimes you have to draw a line in the sand and I'm drawing it at Harriet Tubman.

I guess there were other people who feel the same way I feel because Simmons took down the video and issued an apology.

Here is what he said on

“In the whole history of Def Comedy Jam, I’ve never taken down a controversial comedian,” he wrote. “When my buddies from the NAACP called and asked me to take down the Harriet Tubman video from the All Def Digital YouTube channel and apologize, I agreed.

“I’m a very liberal person with thick skin and it’s hard to offend me. My first impression of the Harriet Tubman piece was that it was about what one of actors said in the video, that 162 years later, there’s still tremendous injustice. And Harriet Tubman outwitting the slave master, I thought it was politically correct. Silly me.”
